Summary of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Who tin can look back upon their life without regret, especially their childhood, where then many of us learned tough lessons about friendship, bullying, and social repercussions?
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini tells the story of a immature boy named Amir. Set against the background of the fall of Afghanistan's government to the Soviet Union and the rise of the Taliban authorities, Amir and his father ("Baba") leave Afghanistan and motility to the United States, where haunting memories of his babyhood best friend—Hassan, the son of his father'south servant—and unfinished business draw Amir back to Transitional islamic state of afghanistan.
If you lot're looking for a low-cal, experience-expert read, put The Kite Runner back on the shelf. If you're looking for a heavy, poignant story, pick it support. A modern humanist novel, The Kite Runner explores deep feelings of guilt, regret, and redemption. The volume is unquestionably intense, but it is well worth the read. Existent emotion and cute moments shine through the depressing events and setting.
"There is a way to be expert once again." (2)

(221) - With me as the glaring exception, my father molded the globe around him to his liking. The problem, of course, was that Baba saw the globe in black and white. - We crossed the edge and the signs of poverty were everywhere. On either side of the road, I saw bondage of little villages sprouting here and at that place, similar discarded toys among the rocks, cleaved mud houses and huts consisting of little more than than iv wooden poles and a tattered fabric as a roof. I saw children dressed in rags chasing a soccer ball exterior the huts. A few miles later, I spotted a cluster of men sitting on their haunches, like a row of crows, on the carcass of an old burned-out Soviet tank, the air current fluttering the edges of the blankets thrown around them. Backside them, a woman in a brown burqa carried a large clay pot on her shoulder, down a rutted path toward a cord of mud houses.
"Strange," I said.
"What?"
"I experience like a tourist in my ain state," I said, taking in a goatherd leading a half-dozen emaciated goats along the side of the road.
Farid snickered. Tossed his cigarette. "You still think of this place as your country?"
"I retrieve a part of me always volition," I said, more than defensively than I had intended.
"After 20 years of living in America," he said, swerving the truck to avert a pothole the size of a beach ball.
I nodded. "I grew up in Transitional islamic state of afghanistan."
Farid snickered again.
"Why do yous do that?"
"Never listen," he murmured.
"No, I want to know. Why do yous practice that?"
In his rearview mirror, I saw something wink in his eyes. "You lot want to know?" he sneered. "Permit me imagine, Agha sahib. You probably lived in a big ii- or 3-story firm with a nice lawn that your gardener filled with flowers and fruit trees. All gated, of form. Your father collection an American car. You had servants, probably Hazaras. Your parents hired workers to decorate the firm for the fancy mehmanis they threw, so their friends would come over to potable and boast about their travels to Europe or America. And I would bet my starting time son's optics that this is the beginning fourth dimension you've ever worn a pakol." He grinned at me, revealing a mouthful of prematurely rotting teeth. "Am I close?"
"Why are you saying these things?" I said.
"Considering you wanted to know," he spat. He pointed to an one-time man dressed in ragged apparel trudging down a dirt path, a large burlap pack filled with scrub grass tied to his back. "That's the real Transitional islamic state of afghanistan, Agha sahib. That's the Afghanistan I know. You? You've e'er been a tourist here, you lot just didn't know it." (231 – 232)

Information technology was Homaira and me confronting the earth. And I'll tell you this, Amir january: In the end, the globe always wins. That'due south just the way of things." (99)
- One day, perchance around 1983 or 1984, I was at a video store in Fremont. "Charles Bronson dies in information technology, then exercise James Coburn and Robert Vaughn." He gave me a pinch-faced look, every bit if I had just spat in his soda. "Cheers a lot, homo," he said, shaking his head and muttering something equally he walked abroad. That was when I learned that, in America, you don't reveal the ending of the movie, and if you practice, you volition be scorned and made to apologize profusely for having committed the sin of Spoiling the Finish.
In Afghanistan, the catastrophe was all that mattered. When Hassan and I came abode after watching a Hindi film at Picture palace Zainab, what Ali, Rahim Khan, Baba, or the myriad of Baba'south friends—2nd and 3rd cousins milling in and out of the house—wanted to know was this: Did the Girl in the film notice happiness? Did the bacheh moving-picture show, the Guy in the film, becomekamyab and fulfill his dreams, or was he nah-kam, doomed to wallow in failure?
Was in that location happiness at the end, they wanted to know.
If someone were to ask me today whether the story of Hassan, Sohrab, and me ends with happiness, I wouldn't know what to say.
Does anybody's?
After all, life is non a Hindi movie. Zendagi migzara, Afghans like to say: Life goes on, unmindful of beginning, end, kamyab, nah-kam, crunch or catharsis, moving forward like a slow, dusty caravan of kochis. (356 – 357)

Mona Sabalones Gonzalez from Philippines on May 15, 2014:
This is a lovely collection of quotes from the book. Information technology really makes you think more deeply, after each quote, almost the book, the culture, the differences in social strata, everything. I like the quote where the driver says to the main character, "You've e'er been a tourist in your own country." It is also very truthful in the Philippines, where there is this huge gap between the rich and the poor. And the last quote was very compelling, the fact that for Westerners, you don't want to know the end in Advance, but in Afghanistan, the end is the virtually important part. Somehow, I feel that that seems to point towards two views of life, as compelling as having two views of the motion-picture show.
I don't know if we volition every understand Muslim culture completely, but this book was a rather strong offset for it. Splendid compilation. Sometimes, a collection of quotes makes a message so much easier to absorb than a normally written hub. You country the quote, and exit it for the reader to notice his or her own musings virtually it. Voted upward.
